About My Work

What to expect:

While I do not offer "head to toe, spa-style" massage, I will at times incorporate massage with craniosacral therapy if we agree together that this would best address your needs.  I draw from a variety of modalities, and I always love the chance to learn new skills. Here is a description of the techniques I most frequently use.

Therapeutic Massage:  I do not gravitate toward the "no pain, no gain" approach.  I typically combine Swedish, Deep Tissue, Trigger Point, and Myofascial Techniques to stretch and tone muscles and other soft tissues, improve circulation, release areas of adhesion and pain, and bring about more freedom of movement.  My style tends to be slow and patient as I feel for restrictions, apply appropriate pressure, and wait for things to soften and let go.  My work may occasionally cause some temporary discomfort, but I avoid using pressure that will lead you to tense up, hold your breath, or "grit your teeth and bear it". In this way I hope to minimize any results that may be counter-productive, such as increased inflammation, nerve irritation, muscle spasm, and undue pain or soreness following the treatment.  I encourage you to always communicate with me about what type of pressure feels best for you.

Craniosacral Therapy (CST):  Craniosacral Therapy may be received while fully dressed in comfortable clothing, or as integrated with traditional massage. CST often uses a light touch, although my pressure may vary and sometimes feel quite deep as I perceive and follow patterns of movement and stillness throughout your body.  "Cranio" and "Sacral" refer to the head and sacrum, the two poles of the spine through which cerebrospinal fluid flows; however, motions and moments of neutral stillness can be felt throughout the entire body as rhythms--an ebb and flow in the bones, soft tissues, and fluids.  As I follow these rhythms I support gentle corrections, and facilitate access to your body's own powerful ability to self-regulate and heal.  CST often feels deeply relaxing, subtle yet profound.  It can assist in correcting misalignments from accidents, falls, habitual postures, even imbalances sustained from the process of being born!  It is often effective in treating headaches, whiplash, TMJ dysfunction, neck and back pain, sinus pressure, stress, digestive issues, emotional difficulties, trauma held in the body, and many other conditions.  It can improve your overall well-being and vitality even if you have no specific ailments.
